Have Your Say on the CBC

January 6, 2020

As I’ve knocked on doors and heard from neighbours, I know that our top concerns as a community are getting things back on track for Alberta – fighting for our province, jobs, and livelihoods. I will do whatever it takes to address this vital issue and secure a brighter future for Albertans. As our neighbours have been sharing their concerns with me, one topic that I hear about fairly often is the CBC. As we’re hard at work fighting for fairness for Albertans and educating Canadians about the importance of a strong Alberta, many Albertans feel that the CBC should do more to reflect the identity and challenges that face Albertans.

From now until February 13th, 2020, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is holding public consultations to hear from Canadians about what they’d like to see done differently at CBC. Before the federal government can renew the broadcasting license of the CBC, Canadians must be provided with an opportunity to participate in the discussion. These public consultations are open to all Canadians and can be completed online, on social media, and by mail.

As part of these consultations, the CRTC is looking to discuss topics such as how the CBC can “reflect Canadians across the country.” This is an important opportunity to share your feedback on how the CBC impacts your day-to-day life and the role you’d like to see it have across the country and for Albertans. Other areas of discussion will touch upon the quality and support shown to Canadian creators and producers, making the CBC accessible and discoverable, how the CBC fits into democratic life and shares news and information, and how the CBC reflects Canadian diversity.

If you’d like to add your voice to the conversation and decide on the future of the CBC, this is an opportunity to submit your feedback, concerns and ideas – so have your say. If you have comments, criticism or would like to be part of the conversation, then I encourage you to visit the CRTC’s website and learn how you can contribute to these ongoing discussions. Now is the time to have your say. Visit the CRTC’s website at https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/television/cbc-src-consultation.htm and click on the links provided.
