You’re Invited to the 2020 Pre-Budget Consultations

January 16, 2020

Are you in this Budget?

We’re all excited about the opportunities and possibilities for the year ahead, and we’re making it clear that 2020 needs to be about getting our priorities, Alberta’s priorities, on the federal agenda. With the 2020 Federal Budget approaching, it’s time to outline our budget priorities. The Liberal Government has launched a website to collect feedback on topics that include: strengthening the Middle class, climate change and protecting the environment, the health and safety of Canadians, and reconciliation. You can complete the Liberal Government’s survey at https://www.budget.gc.ca/2020/prebudget-prebudgetaire/index-en.html.

But 2020 needs to be about getting all our priorities on the agenda, and that includes the issues that the Liberals want to ignore. This year, we’re getting Alberta’s message out to Canadians, getting our interests and concerns on the agenda, and demanding action on the issues that matter most. We need to send a loud message to Ottawa that the 2020 Budget must work for and include Alberta. To start, I’ll be hosting my annual Pre-Budget Consultations across our community (see below for more information).

Once again, I’m looking to hear from people across our community about their feedback, concerns and expectations for the upcoming Federal Budget. This feedback will help inform my plans and help shape the issues that I’ll be fighting for when I take our message to Canadians. I’ll also send your feedback to the Liberal Government ahead of the 2020 Budget, so that they know exactly what matters to our province and community.

Days before Christmas, the Liberals unveiled a Fall Economic Update… and the outlook was bleak. It was a picture of growing and runaway deficits that show no signs of slowing down. In fact, the 2019 deficit was $7 billion larger than the Liberals anticipated, and that number doesn’t even include their election spending. To make matters more concerning, the Liberals have no plan to balance the budget, and they aren’t even thinking about it.

Canadians are listening to Albertans, but only when we get our message out. With these upcoming Pre-Budget Consultations, you’ll be able to ensure that your voice is heard. Join me in outlining our province’s priorities for the year ahead and what steps the Federal Budget must take to jump-start our economy and support Albertans.
